The inaugural festival was held during two consecutive weekends in 2009 -  31 Oct-1 Nov based at the LSU Ag Center in Jennings; and 6-7 Nov, based in Thornwell at the Thornwell Warehouse Association. Harvesting Friday and Saturday of the first weekend was rained out - but nearly all participants who signed up were able to participate on “rain make-up Sunday.” The second weekend had wonderful weather. All participants were treated to views of Yellow Rails as well as about 150 other bird species recorded in the area during the festival.
